BIO
Dr. Mounir AbouHaidar is a Professor in the Department of Cell and Systems Biology. He completed his Master's degree and Ph.D. in Virology at the University of Strasbourg, France.
Dr. AbouHaidar's research areas include biotechnology, genetics or genomics, microbiology, and molecular biology, with a focus on plant and human viruses. More recently, he has been studying on the development of “transgenic” plants resistant to viruses: mechanisms of resistance, genome organization, self-splicing (Ribozyme) and replication strategies of some viruses and their satellite RNAs, development of recombinant vaccines produced in plants, plant antiviral proteins for gene therapy of AIDS, molecular mechanisms involved in the translation in Pro- and Eukaryotes: alternative modes of initiation of translation, and development of vaccines (e.g. HCV).
Media availability: TV, Radio, Print/Online
