BIO
Dr. Bharati Bapat, PhD, is a Professor Emerita at the University of Toronto's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology as well as a staff scientist at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, University Health Network, and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. Dr. Bapat has written more than 120 peer-reviewed articles. Her research programme is concentrated on translational genomics and epigenomics, particularly the identification of cancer biomarkers and the comprehension of their function in the progression of cancer. Dr. Bapat is in charge of numerous national and international collaborative prostate cancer research projects. By utilizing these cancer biomarkers that are diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive, Dr. Bapat hopes to implement these discoveries into clinical practice and enhance patient care.
Investigation of epigenetic markers of genitor-urinary and gastrointestinal neoplasms using genome-wide interrogation strategies is a significant area of current research. Her lab has found novel epigenetic prostate cancer biomarkers using an integrated, multidisciplinary approach, and has provided insight into their potential utility as diagnostic and/or prognostic markers.
