Bo Cowgill is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management. His research uses field experiments, economic theory, and large-scale administrative data to study organizational economics, innovation, and strategy. He is particularly interested in how firms design labor markets, platforms, and information systems, with recent work on hiring, technological change, AI-mediated communication, and the political economy of firms and markets.

Before joining Rotman, Bo was an Assistant Professor at Columbia Business School and a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Wharton School. He previously worked at Google in engineering, product management, and economic research. He is a Visiting Scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation for 2026-2027, a Research Fellow at IZA, a Distinguished Affiliate at CESifo, an Affiliate Fellow at the Stigler Center at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a Fellow at the Centre for AI, Management, and Organization at the University of Hong Kong.

His research has appeared in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Political Economy: Microeconomics, Management Science, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Organization Science, and the ACM Conference on Economics and Computation. His awards include the Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship, the J. Robert Beyster Fellowship, the CESifo Prize in Economics of Digitization, Poets & Quants' Best 40 Under 40 Business School Professors, and the Aspen Institute's Ideas Worth Teaching Award. He received his PhD from UC Berkeley and his BA from Stanford University.
