Gustavo Ferreira

Gustavo Ferreira is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in Information and Technology Studies and the Coordinator of the Culture & Technology concentration of the Master of Information. His research and teaching practice focuses on advancing critical studies of cultural mediations of information and communication technologies. In particular, he researches music circulation and curation as affected by audio media technologies (radio, podcasting, social media, and streaming platforms) and Recommender Systems. His scholarship approaches technological critique stemming from cultural studies and the political economy of culture and technology while expanding perspectives from Latin-American communication studies and sound culture.

He received a PhD in Communication from the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil 2020 and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Mila AI Institute in Montreal. Most recently, he was the Wolfe Chair Faculty Lecturer in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University.
