Dr Elsholtz completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Manitoba in the Department of Zoology (1974-1978). He pursued his graduate studies with Dr Henry Friesen at the University of Manitoba in the Health Sciences Division completing his PhD there in 1984. He then did postdoctoral research (MRC Fellow) with Dr Michael 'Geoff' Rosenfeld at the University of California, San Diego in the School of Medicine (1984-87) and was a Hughes Associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at UCSD (1987-88). Dr Elsholtz joined the University of Toronto in 1989 as Assistant Professor and a full Faculty Member at the School of Graduate Studies, and actively engaged in the teaching and research supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. He is an Associate Professor (tenured) and Principal Investigator at the University of Toronto (1995-present) having conducted CIHR (MRC) funded studies in molecular endocrinology. He served as the Graduate Program Coordinator for the Dept of Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology from 2002 - 2018. His career has been highlighted with a number of fellowships and awards, such as the Distinguished Service Award (Dept of Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology, 2016), Leadership Acknowledgment Award from the Dept of Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology (2020), Co-Chair Professional Graduate Curriculum Committee-LMP (2019 - 2022).
