BIO
Oren Siegel is an Assistant Professor (CLTA) in the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations at the University of Toronto. Dr. Siegel studies Egyptian archaeology, with a particular focuses on monumental architecture, urbanism, landscape archaeology, and the materiality of borders in the ancient Egyptian world. His dissertation traces the development of monumental enclosure walls in ancient Egypt from the Predynastic through the Second Intermediate Period, with special attention to both the construction techniques employed to build such features and the broader social and political meaning of these walling projects. Dr. Siegel has participated in field projects at Uronarti, Aswan, Tell Edfu, Dendara, and Mendes.
