BIO

Jordana Garbati has a PhD in Education (focus: Applied Linguistics, 2013) from Western University. She has an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University (2018), an MEd from Queen’s University (2007), and a BA and BEd from York University (2003). In 2020, Jordana began as Assistant Professor at the Institute for the Study of University Pedagogy (ISUP). At ISUP, Jordana teaches courses in academic writing, intercultural communication, and, most recently, emoji communication.

 

Jordana is currently Director of the the Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre. Here, she oversees academic programming in the areas of writing, math and numeracy, and study skills for students as well as pedagogical support for instructors and faculty at the University of Toronto Mississauga.


Prior to joining UTM, Jordana was a Writing Consultant at Laurier where she provided in-class writing instruction, worked with faculty to develop discipline- and course-specific writing assignments, and mentored a team of undergraduate and graduate writing tutors. She also developed and taught the required undergraduate course EC281 (Writing and Presentations in Economics) for Economics students in the School of Business and Economics at Laurier.

In 2019, Jordana’s first book Mastering Academic Writing (co-author: Dr. Boba Samuels) was published by Sage.
