BIO
Avrum I. Gotlieb chaired the committee to create the professional graduate program, MHSc in Laboratory Medicine, which was established in May 2020. He was founding Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (LMP) (1997-2008), Interim Vice-Dean, Research and International Relations (2009-10), Acting and Interim Vice Dean, Graduate and Life Sciences Education (2011-2014), Senior Academic Advisor to the Dean (2010-2017), School of Graduate Studies Tenure Assessor (2017-), and Vice Provost, Faculty and Academic Life Search Committee Assessor (2018-). He became Program Director of the MHSc in Laboratory Medicine in May 2020 and is LMP liaison to the Translational Research Program (2018-)
Dr. Gotlieb is a cardiovascular pathologist and a clinician scientist who had a successful atherosclerosis and vascular biology research laboratory in LMP. He was the past co-Editor of Cardiovascular Pathology (2000-2010), now Associate Editor, and serves on the Editorial Board of The American Journal of Pathology and of Laboratory Investigation, and is a Senior Advisor, Academic Pathology.
Dr. Gotlieb’s academic contributions have been recognized by several awards including the Robbins Distinguished Educator Award (ASIP) and the Distinguished Service Award (Association of Pathology Chairs). He was President of the American Society for Investigative Pathology (2001-2002), and the Society for Cardiovascular Pathology (1997-1999).
