BIO

Joel Baum is a Professor of Strategic Management. He recently completed a term as Associate Editor of Academy of Management Review (2018-20), sits on the editorial board of Strategic Management Journal and is founding co-editor of Strategic Organization. Recent awards include Most Impactful Article, Journal of Business Venturing (2010) and Organization and Management Theory Distinguished Scholar, Academy of Management (2011). Joel is a Fellow of the Academy of Management and the Royal Scociety of Canada. Joel teaches Communicating Strategy and Strategic Change in the MBA program, and Research Methods in the PhD program. He has studied patterns of competition and cooperation and their influence on firm and individual behavior, learning, and performance in diverse settings including biotechnology, investment banking, private military services, and Mozilla software development. Currently his research focuses on the rivalry between emerging cellular agriculture companies producing alternative meats and proteins and traditional producers of animal meat and protein.
