BIO
Professor Brian Baigrie is an Associate Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies at the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IHPST), University of Toronto. He is an Associate Professor (status only) the Institute for Health Policy, Management&Evaluation Dalla Lana School of Public Health), University of Toronto. Professor Baigrie is co-lead of a working group on health systems resilience (Institute for Pandemics, Dalla Lana School of Public Health).
As a published author, Professor Baigrie's early work focused on early modern natural philosophy (ranging from late 16th-century to 19th-century physics), especially Isaac Newton's use of Kepler's laws of motion as evidence for the university of gravitational attraction. For the last decade, Professor Baigrie has been working on epistemological issues concerning the goodness (validity, relevance) of evidence in medicine, particularly, statistical results from population studies that are leveraged in support of public health measures.
