BIO
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, where I teach in the Educational Leadership and Policy program and the collaborative specialization in Comparative, International and Development Education. My work is driven by a commitment to addressing entrenched power hierarchies in global education governance and policy. I explore the complexities of aid in development and humanitarian contexts, with a focus on education for populations affected by conflict and crisis. For example, I have conducted studies on the inequitable distribution of educational aid, the growing influence of private actors in humanitarianism, how international organizations shape education policy, and the role that race plays in global policy-making.
I am dedicated to mentoring students who share a commitment to critically engaging with these pressing issues. I strive to create a collaborative environment where we can examine how education policy-making can become more equitable and inclusive, and where students can contribute original research that questions existing global education structures.
Throughout my career, I’ve been honored with recognitions such as the Comparative and International Education Society's George Bereday Award (twice), the National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the OISE/University of Toronto's Global Service Award. I’m also the author of "International Aid to Education: Power Dynamics in an Era of Partnership" (Teachers College Press), which delves into the power dynamics shaping global education policy.
