David Lieberman is an Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto and has been a practicing architect since 1974. He has been educated in the practices of architecture, sculptures, and industrial design at various academic institutions across the globe. Namely, Cornell University in New York, the California Insitute of the Arts, the California Insitute of Technology, and the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.

Lieberman's current work in a studio practice has included technical consultancy to residences in the Toronto area, a fourplex in Manhattan, a studio for a video artist, steel fabricators, and millwork fabricators. His research activities include materials development and testing with a focus on concrete and glass, in addition to the development of generative architectures such as a manipulable ceiling that can be played as an instrument in an orchestra. The latter has informed Lieberman's current research which has focused on listening to the sounds of the city in order to construct a series of large-scale instruments. Although he is not a musician, Lieberman finds pleasure in music and the challenges of space between notes. Lieberman has also worked on sustainable practice, such as the reconstruction of North House, the University of Waterloo's entry to the Solar Decathlon, as a permanent laboratory.

Lieberman's teaching responsibilities at the University of Toronto have included thesis, urban design, comprehensive building studios, and lecture seminars in drawing and in the culture of architecture. His recent publications have surrounded topics of sustainable architecture, speculative and constructed landscapes, and critical works on music, acoustics, sound, and architecture. Lieberman has also had a recent gallery exhibition which displayed digital landscape paintings and a film selected from a larger speculative work (The Alchemist's Garden) in addition to an installation accompanied by a film and dancers. Lieberman also has a current exhibition that is a sound installation and performance piece.
