BIO

Prof. Pekka Sinervo is a professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Toronto. He teaches physics and does research in experimental elementary particle physics. He is also a member of the ATLAS collaboration that studies proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Their goal is to understand the basic building blocks of nature, and the forces that hold them together. In his role as senior vice-president at CIFAR, he oversaw the research portfolio of the institute, working closely with colleagues to support the global research networks they created and fostered. As dean, he led significant change in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto, creating new graduate funding programs and overseeing an evolution to a more student-centric set of values within the Faculty.
