BIO

David Martell is a Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Forestry and Conservation in the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. He completed his B.A.Sc. (1971), M.A.Sc. (1972), and Ph.D. (1975) in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto where he studied Management Science and Operational Research and their application to forest fire management. He worked for the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests as a summer student in the Fire Control Unit in Toronto for several summers beginning in 1970. He joined the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Toronto as a forest fire management specialist in 1974. After he completed his Ph.D. he spent part of the 1975 fire season as a member of an Ontario Department of Lands and Forests fire crew stationed at Shebandowan in Thunder Bay district. He has worked as a consultant to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (OMNRF) and several other government agencies. He was assigned as a research scientist, to one of the OMNRF's fire Incident Management Teams (IMT) for the 2010 - 2021 fire seasons.
