BIO

Dr. Lipsman obtained his MD from Queen's University and completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Toronto. He completed his PhD, also at the University of Toronto, under the supervision of Dr. Andres Lozano. After a functional neurosurgery fellowship at UHN, he began his faculty appointment at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. His research focuses on the development of deep brain stimulation and MR-guided focused ultrasound for a wide range of neurological and psychiatric disease. He is Full Professor in the Department of Surgery and the School of Graduate Studies, and Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute. He currently holds the Harquail Chair in Neuromodulation as the Director of Sunnybrook's Harquail Centre and is the Program Chief of the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program. In addition, he is the Clinical Director of the Focused Ultrasound Centre of Excellence at Sunnybrook. Dr. Lipsman is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the international Ferenc Jolesz award for Excellence in Focused Ultrasound, the Royal Mach Gaenslen Prize in Mental Health Research and the Temerty Alumni Emerging Leader Award.
