BIO

Miglena S. Todorova is Associate Professor in the Department of Social Justice Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and Associate Graduate Faculty Member, Center for European & Eurasian Studies, Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto. Prof. Todorova’s research explores the relationship between gender, race, and socialist and capitalist political economy in Canada, the United States, and former socialist countries in Eastern & Central Europe, and the Balkans. She teaches graduate courses in the areas of  Globalization and Transnationality; Race, Gender & Empire in Socialist States; Qualitative Research Methods for Social Justice; and Sexual Violence Prevention in Higher Education. Prof. Todorova's research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is the author and co-editor of two books and multiple articles published in leading scholarly journals. Her work has received awards such as the Paula Giddings Best Essay Award (2018) and the CASWE Achievement Award for Outstanding Research and Teaching Contributions to Women and Education in Canada (2023). Dr. Todorova’s work has been featured on CBC-Radio Ideas and the Bulgarian National Radio. Todorova is the former Director of the Centre for Media, Culture and Education (2017- 2024) and served as the Graduate Coordinator and Associate Chair of the Department of Social Justice Education (2020-2024) at OISE.
