BIO

Michelle Pannor Silver is a Professor at the University of Toronto and the Chair of the Department of Health & Society at the University of Toronto Scarborough, she also holds appointments in the Depart of Sociology, the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, and the Institute of Life Course and Aging. Dr. Silver’s primary areas of research include: 1) Work, Aging, and Retirement; 2) Health Information Seeking; and 3) Perceptions about Aging and Health. Her book, Retirement and Its Discontents, was published by Columbia University Press in 2018, and her forthcoming book, Aging with Agility will also be published with Columbia University Press. Her research has been supported by grants from multiple funding agencies including the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Connaught New Researcher Award, and the Mitacs Accelerate Program.

She received a BA, BS, and MPP from the University of California, Berkeley and a PhD from the University of Chicago.
