BIO

David Schneiderman, B.A (McGill) 1980, LL.B. (Windsor) 1983, LL.M. (Queen's) 1993, is Professor of Law and Political Science (courtesy). He practised law in British Columbia, served as Research Director of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association in Toronto, and then was Executive Director of the Centre for Constitutional Studies at the University of Alberta, before joining the University of Toronto. Professor Schneiderman has authored numerous articles on Canadian constitutional law and history, comparative constitutional law, and law and globalization. He is the author of over 80 articles and book chapters and, in addition, the author or editor of over a dozen books, including The Last Word: Media Coverage of the Supreme Court of Canada, co-authored with Florian Sauvageau and David Taras (UBC Press, 2006), Constitutionalizing Economic Globalization: Investment Rules and Democracy's Promise (Cambridge UP 2008), Resisting Economic Globalization: Critical Theory and International Investment Law (Palgrave 2013), Red, White and Kind of Blue? The Conservatives and the Americanization of Canadian Constitutional Culture (U Toronto, 2015),  Investment Law’s Alibis: Colonialism, Imperialism, Debt and Development (Cambridge UP, 2022), Rethinking Investment Law,  co-edited with Gus Van Harten (Oxford UP, 2023), and Constitutional Review and International Investment Law: Deference or Defiance? (Oxford UP, 2024). His new  book is entitled A Sociology of International Investment Law: Themes from Max Weber (Oxford UP forthcoming).
