I am currently an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto's Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health's Clinical Public Health Division. My past work was at Public Health Ontario from 2009 to 2022 in a variety of positions, most recently as vice president of science and population health. I previously held the positions of Director of Emergency Management Support and Vice President of Health Protection. I had worked from 2004 to 2011 for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care as a Scientific Advisor for the Emergency Management Branch, and served as co-chair of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table from 2020 to 2022. I have also served as chair of the scientific response team for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, and in 2003 served as vice-chair of the Ontario SARS Scientific Advisory Committee.

I have practised emergency medicine for over 30 years in community and academic settings prior to my public health work. From 1996 to 2009, I served as the Sunnybrook Centre for Prehospital Care's director. As I member, since the inception of the Canadian Pandemic Influenza Plan Working Group, I have authored in the fields of emergency medicine, prehospital care, and health emergency response. 

Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science in Community Health were obtained from the University of Toronto. I have received my fellowship and certification in emergency medicine from the  College of Family Physicians of Canada.
