BIO
Bio
Angela Vemic is an assistant professor, teaching stream in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. She is a member of the leadership team for the Master of Teaching program, and has served as the research coordinator of the program for 7 years. She has also held leadership positions as the teaching and learning coordinator of the MT program, and divisional academic coordinator for the intermediate-senior and junior-intermediate divisions. Between 2017-2020, she served as the inaugural director of the Eureka Research Institute at University of Toronto Schools (UTS) and remains a member of its Advisory Board. Her research interests focus on citizenship education and teacher research. In particular, she is interested in teachers' relationship to and beliefs about knowledge, with specific interest in the intersection between knowledge production (and reproduction), power, and identities. This translates to a teaching and research program that centre topics such as the teaching of controversial issues, critical information literacy, epistemic reflexivity, teacher research, and critical practitioner inquiry. The interpretive lens that shapes her teaching and research practice centres critical theory of democracy and education, social epistemology, and critical social science research. Prof. Vemic teaches courses in educational research, elementary social studies, democratic citizenship education, and the social foundations of education.
