Dr. Loren Martin is an Associate professor at the University of Toronto and a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Translational Pain Research. Completing his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto, Dr. Martin moved on to two postdoctoral fellowships at Boston University and McGill University. His research investigates the impact of social factors and learning on pain modulation using mouse models to identify the neurobiology behind these processes. Utilizing mouse genetics, electrophysiology, viral tracing, pharmacogenetics and optogenetics, Dr. Martin’s team investigates the impact of social factors and learning on pain modulation, and how painful experiences modify neural circuits, transmitter systems and peptide systems. Dr. Martin’s career has been distinguished by numerous awards including Dean’s Excellence Awards, Canadian Pain Society’s Early Career Award, and the American Pain Society Future Leaders Award. Dr. Martin's lab is currently funded by CIHR, NSERC, Connaught, Ontario Ministry of Innovation and CFI.
