BIO
Dr. Norman Rosenblum is a clinician scientist trained in Paediatric Nephrology and developmental nephrology. The major focus of his research is genetic and molecular mechanisms that control normal and disrupted mammalian renal development. He is investigating the functions of signalling pathways controlled by the Transforming Growth Factor Beta, Hedgehog, and Iroquois families in the normal and malformed kidney using genetic mouse models, murine kidney explants, and human kidney organoids. Dr. Rosenblum's laboratory is constituted of undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. His clinical work is focused on consultant nephrology and the diagnosis and management of children with renal-urinary tract malformation.
Dr. Rosenblum has a major interest in the education and career development of clinicians- and translational scientists and the development of health research strategies. He served as Associate Dean, Physician Scientist Training (MD/PhD and Clinical Investigator Programs) in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto (2008-2017) and a member of the steering committee of the NIH-funded Pediatric Scientist Development Program (2004-2022). Dr. Rosenblum is a member of the Executive Board of the EUREKA Institute for Translational Medicine and serves as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki.
As of January 1, 2018, Dr. Rosenblum assumed the role of Scientific Director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (INMD), Canada’s federal health research agency. He began his 2nd four-year term as Scientific Director on January 1, 2022.
