BIO

Dr. Navarre is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics. He joined the Department in 2007 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012. From 2012-2017 he was the Undergraduate Coordinator for the department. He currently serves as the Vice Chair and is the lead officer for equity, diversity and inclusion.

Dr. Navarre is a microbiologist with an extensive record of publication in the study of bacteria. He has particular interests in the evolution of antibiotic resistance and virulence, and how bacteria (including the 'normal' microbiota) influence human health.

Dr. Navarre has taught extensively and has been a coordinator for the MGY377 (Bacteriology) course since 2010. He created the Department’s first online course MGY277, Introduction to Medical Microbiology, which has enrolled as many as 1200 students. Dr. Navarre also initiated changes to the Microbiology and Molecular Genetics undergraduate Specialist program to make it more research intensive.
