Dr. Bernard Le Foll is a MD PhD, member of the College of Family Physician of Canada with certified competence in Addiction Medicine (AM). He is Professor at the University of Toronto in the departments of Family Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Psychiatry. He holds full graduate faculty appointments in the Institute of Medical Sciences and Department of Pharmacology at University of Toronto. He practices as Staff Physician in the area of Addiction Medicine at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto since 2006. He has held various medical leadership roles in the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and is leading a translational addiction research program at CAMH. He has led over the years multiple teams of scientists using various research approaches. He has been advisors for multiple agencies, has developed clinical guidelines and been involved in policy. He has been invited to speak at Senate and House of Communs on addiction related issues. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts (>17,000 citations, H index 69, Google Scholar). He has obtained more than 100 grants and over 40 Millions of dollars of funding. He is currently in charge of mentoring clinician- scientists within the Addiction Division at CAMH. He has been nominated Endowed Chair of Addiction Psychiatry at University of Toronto in 2021. In addition to his role at CAMH, he has taken in Feb 2022 the role of Vice-President Research and Academics and Chief Scientifc Officer at the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. He has been nominated a member of Governing Council of CIHR in 2024.

Dr. Le Foll is a clinician-scientist specializing in drug addiction. He is the Vice President of Research & Academics and Chief Scientific Officer at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. He is the Chair of Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and is a Professor in the departments of Psychiatry, Family and Community Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, as well as the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Dr. Le Foll has practiced in the area of Addiction Medicine at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto since 2006. His multi-disciplinary research approach seeks to better understand the neurobiology of addiction and develop novel therapeutic strategies. 

Dr. Le Foll leads CAMH’s Translational Addiction Research Laboratory within the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute. He obtained his PhD in Pharmacology at University of Paris Sud in France and has performed post-doctoral training in behavioral pharmacology and brain imaging within the intra-mural program of the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Bernard Le Foll is a Clinician Scientist specializing in addiction. He is Chair in Addiction Psychiatry within the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Toronto. He is Head of the Translational Addiction Research Laboratory in the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute.
