BIO
Faye Mishna joined the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work in 1999 as an Assistant Professor. She served as the Dean from 2009-2019 and is currently a Professor in the Faculty, cross-appointed to the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, an Invited Member, Wilson Centre, and a Senior Fellow, Massey College.
Her program of research focuses on bullying/cyber bullying and sexting among youth, informal cyber technology use in social work practice, and clinical practice. An integral component of her research entails collaboration with community agencies and organizations.
She is the PI on two SSHRC Insight Grants: 1) Consensual and Non-Consensual Sexting in Adolescence: Challenging Conventional Wisdom (2019-2022); and 2) #SocialWork: Informal Use of Information and Communication Technology as an Adjunct to Traditional Face-to-Face Practice (2016-2020). She is Co-Principal Investigator on 2 Youth Sexting projects, in collaboration with University College London.
On behalf of the Faculty, Faye accepted the University of Toronto Northrop Frye Award for the Faculty’s Simulation Program in 2017. In 2016, she was awarded the Distinguished Recent Contributions Award from the Council of Social Work Education (U.S.A.). She is an Inaugural Fellow of the Society for Social Work and Research, a Fellow of the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities and maintains a small private practice in psychotherapy and consultation.
