BIO
Adam Isaiah Green is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at University of Toronto. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from New York University. Following graduation, Adam was a postdoctoral fellow at the Indiana University & National Institute of Mental Health training program in Identity, Self, Role and Mental Health, where he received training in Medical Sociology.
Adam’s areas of research include the sociology of sexuality, medical sociology and HIV/AIDS.
His book, Sexual Fields: Toward a Sociology of Collective Sexual Life (University of Chicago Press), establishes the foundation of the sexual fields framework and features the work of leading sociologists who take a sexual fields approach in their own research.
Adam’s publications include articles in Sociological Theory, Theory & Society, Social Problems, Social Psychology Quarterly, the Journal of Health & Social Behavior, Sociology of Health and Illness, Sexualities, Culture, Health & Sexuality, among others. Three of his articles have been recognized with ASA section paper awards, including the Sexualities section and the Shils-Coleman Memorial Award in Theory. In the past, he has been supported by a grant from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) and a five-year CIHR Early Investigator’s Award for a comparative study of gay/bisexual/MSM HIV prevention in Toronto and Los Angeles. He is the past recipient of a five-year operating grant from the Social Science & Humanities Research Council for a study of same-sex marriage in Ontario, a grant from the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research for a study on sexual status structures and sexual fields, and a dissertation award from the National Science Foundation.
