BIO

Dr. Laurent Bozec is a full professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto.

He is cross-appointed in the Department of Laboratory of Medicine and Pathology, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and Sinai Health System Mount Sinai Hospital, Dentistry Department, Toronto (Canada). In 2024, he was also cross-appointed to the Faculty of Information (iSchool) at the University of Toronto for his Conservation and Cultural Heritage work.

The Matrix Functionalization and Phenotyping Lab [MFP-Lab (or Bozec-lab)] explores the relationship between collagen's structural and biomechanical properties at the nanoscale in health and diseases. The MFP-Lab has developed unique expertise worldwide to study the biophysics of connective tissue disorders and collagen engineering using primarily atomic force microscopy (AFM). The lab is currently leading an effort to define nanoscale structural biomarkers for Ehlers-Danlos. Over the years, the lab started exploring any procedures or conditions that may affect the collagen within the dentin and, by extension, conditions affecting the enamel, such as dental anomalies. Finally, the lab has long-standing expertise in parchment-based research for Cultural Heritage applications and is currently developing the field of conservation histology to help conservators across the globe.

The lab expertise resides in #nanometrology #collagen #dental anomalies #parchments #glycation #tissue engineering

The MFP lab has always nurtured excellent relationships with industrial partners in the private sector. The translational nature of our research portfolio gives us substantial flexibility and adaptability to collaborate with colleagues from the private sector.
