BIO
Professor Miriam L. Diamond is an international expert in chemical contaminants from sources to management, gained from over three decades of conducting research and teaching at the University of Toronto. Prof. Diamond's research goal is to reduce impacts from chemical contaminants by understanding their releases through to human and ecological exposure and to translate this into preventative measures. She is also deeply involved in chemicals management efforts in national and international arenas. Her science and policy research has been published in nearly 250 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, in addition to receiving extensive media attention.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. In 2007 she was named Canadian Environmental Scientist of the Year and was a finalist for 2018 the Nature Inspiration Award from the Canadian Museum of Nature. Prof. Diamond was the co-chair of the Canadian Chemical Management Plan Science Committee from 2017 to 2021, is the Vice-Chair of the International Panel on Chemical Pollution, is a member of the Scientific and Technical Panel of the Global Environment Facility and is an Earth Commissioner under the initiative from Future Earth. Prof. Diamond was an Associate Editor of the leading journal Environmental Science and Technology for 12 years and now sits on the Editorial Review board of Journal of Exposure Science and Environmental Epidemiology.
